North Marshall Street: It Smelled So Good

Prev Story 3 of 3 Next

North Marshall Street between Poplar Street and Girard Avenue

Odessa was a grocery store on Marshall Street. My mom used to take us to help with the bags of groceries. I remember how wonderful it smelled in side the store, especially by the lunchmeat counter. I would get hungry waiting for mom to get done shopping. Afterwords mom would take us across the street to get a hot dog with sauerkraut. That was delicious. Then of course Mom would stop by the potato stand, other produce stands, the bakery. That was true European style shopping, open-market. Mom would also go shopping during the day while we were in school. I have fond memories of my childhood on North Marshall Street.
