Keystone Sewing Machine Company: "Threading History"

833 North 2nd Street

Keystone Sewing Machine Company was founded in 1977 by Leonard O’Neill. O’Neill, who started working in the industry when he was 16, moved the business from a garage, to a rented building in Old City, to its current location in Northern Liberties. The shop occupies Keystone Hall, which was built in the late 1800s and was once a community dance hall and social center. Greg O’Neill, Leonard’s son, now runs the business with his mother, Lois. They provide machines, service repairs, and parts to both full production factories and individuals. Keystone now sells to many customers outside of the city through its website. However, their storefront still resonates as a location where quality sewing machines are stitched together and reborn.
