The Bicycle Stable: "From Horses to Bikes"
1420 Frankford Avenue
Chaz Vlasits, a mechanic, carpenter, and former bike racer, opened The Bicycle Stable in 2005. The building was originally a police station for officers on horseback. Over the years it was used in multiple ways, including, for a short period of time, as a storage facility for bicycles collected by the police. Vlasits, who once worked as a carpenter, renovated the deteriorating building himself and has continued to renovate the space as his business, home, and community icon.
