Italian immigrant Mario Isgro founded this family bakery in 1904. Family lore holds that Isgro learned his trade in the kitchen of a baron in Messina, Sicily, and brought his culinary skills and his family with him to Philadelphia. Isgro's is Philadelphia's oldest family-owned bakery; third-generation Augustine "Gus" Isgro is now the owner and head baker, and his son Mario is poised to take the helm.
